The 1980 Strongbow Contest

The 1980 Strongbow Contest

Where you aware of the 1980 Strongbow Contest?  I'm sure not.  The Strongbow Contest was a strongman contest that was held in England. It consisted of a clean and jerk, deadlift (both of these events are performed to a one rep maximum weight) and as many shoulder press repetitions as possible with a pair of 121 pound dumbbells. Bill Kazmaier won the contest with a 374 pound Clean and Jerk, 837 pound Deadlift and 17 repetitions with a pair of 121 pound Dumbell Press. Lars Hedlund of Sweden came in second. American Ernie Hacket came in third with a 369 pound clean and jerk, a 700 pound deadlift and ten reps with the dumbbells.

NHL Blood Series Enforcers Cards

NHL Blood Series Enforcers Hockey Cards
2011-2012

Finally something about hockey that interest me.  The 2011-2012 Enforcers Cards Box.  I'm not a hockey fan and I don't watch hockey on tv.  But I'm a huge fight fan.  I admire fighters and I admire those gladiators who drops their gloves on ice.  So I don't care about the snipers and franchise players.

But now hockey is becoming a wimpy sport with the silly media's obsession with concussions and head blows.  So wimpy that even the parution of this cards box creates controversy?!?  With those countless suspensions and witch-hunting the NHL is quickly transforming itself into the Ice Capades.  And unfortunately the only real gladiators of the ice are becoming obsolete.

So get yourself a part of hockey's history and by buying this piece of collection.  A complete set of cards and memorabilia  of what was once for decades an important part of the hockey game:

THE ENFORCERS.

The blood-splatered cards will be on sale January 19, 2012.  I will get mine get yours now on itgtradingcards.com

BIG 4 STRENGTH EXERCISES

You Only Need 4 Exercices to Become the Biggest and the Strongest Humanly Possible
Written by PYGOD on August 6, 2007

One day, in the early 1900, German superstrongman Herman
Goerner stated that there is three tests of strength.

  • How much you can lift off the ground
  • How much you can put over your head
  • How much weight you can walk with

Let me introduce you to the four best exercices of all-times,
to the four real tests of strength. Squat, deadlift, clean-and-jerk, and
farmer's walk. The real deal. The Four of a Kind.

When people asks me what I've done to become so freaky big and strong. I told'em an unusual boring response. Train once a week on the four big exercices, then rest and eat like a pig. Not really a conventionnal answer in this world of long, useless 5-day-a- week training routine, cable machines, supplements, and protein powders.
But I didn't invent anything, the kind of training program that I preach was here long before I was born. That was the kind of training preconized by the old-timers, the pionners of the Iron Game like J.C. Hise, Peary Rader and all the greats of the past...
Let's put the Four of a Kind in order of importance ( hard to tell because the four are almost equal).
  • POWER SQUAT
  • DEADLIFT
  • CLEAN AND JERK
  • FARMER'S WALK

Let it go with the first, the POWER FULL SQUAT

Mike Miller
Probably the most important exercise of all. Done properly and regularly, squats will boost your entire body gain in strength and muscle. The heavy motion movement of squat works the thighs, gluteus, lower back, hips, and to a lower level; calves, chest, shoulders, upper back, and trapezius. Even more than this, squat produces huge benefits for the heart and the lungs. Squat by himself, stimulates the entire metabolism and triggers out terrific growth from head to toes.  If you choose to excel and concentrate on just one exercice: choose squat.  This exercice is that damn good!!

The close second, the almighty DEADLIFT.

Andy Bolton
One of the most classic and elemental test of strength. True strength comes from the hips, the thighs, and the lower back. So deadlift seems to be the perfect event to demonstrate pure strength.
Deadlift works the hips, thighs, lower back, upper back, trapezius hands, and forearms. It's work the entire body and just like squat. Heavy deadlift triggers growth stimulation throughout the entire body.

One of the most essential test of strength, the CLEAN AND JERK

Hossein Rezazadeh
What you can lift from the ground to arms' length overhead? A classic test of human's strength. And the best way to press top weight overhead. As the three others, the clean and jerk works the entire body and will develop extraordinary coordination, speed and explosive power.  Clean and jerk is a lot about technique and momentum. But once you control it, the world is up to you!

One of the most tough and complete exercice ever invented by the devious human mind: the FARMER'S WALK.

Mariusz Pudzianowski
Not only works the grip but the entire body. Lower back, upper back, trapezius, ankles, knees, legs, forearms, and hands are all part of the action in the farmer's walk. And by the way, it's really good for the body coordination. So, in my view, this is the best exercice you can do for your grip and it is a fixture in strongman competitions. So if you want to compete someday. You're better to do it as soon as possible.  If you can't practice farmer's walk at your gym, do dumbbells hold instead.  Dumbbells hold will be very good for your grip and will strengthen your will power and concentration.

That's it for the Four of a Kind.  But stay tune for the next articles, there will be certainly more on this and on other topics on the fantastic strength sport.

If you find this articles interesting and you want more of this. You can get my book: CHEATING NATURE WITHOUT STEROIDS online to: http://bookstore.trafford.com/Products/SKU-000154200/Cheating-Nature-Without-Steroids.aspx

Stay tune for more!

585 lbs Clean and Jerk

Leonid Taranenko 585 lbs Clean and Jerk is the most amazing feat of strength in history.

Leonid Taranenko
Olympic weightlifter
Born 1956 in Soviet Union.
6', 321 pounds

Leonid Taranenko singlehandly accomplished the most amazing and unbelievable feat of strength in history.  Leonid Taranenko clean and jerked 585.2 pounds (266 kg) in 1988.  A super human feat who hasn't been equaled to this date.  But unfortunately his world record no longer stand since all the old records were annulled after the restructuration of weight classes by the International Weightlifting Federation.  Gross!?!

In fact, deadlifting six plates is a feat of strength.  Just having the grip strength to hold this bar overhand is a tremendous feat.  Now, imagine lifting this monstruous weighty bar from the floor to overhead!?!  Unbelievable!!

It took 16 years to come close of this untouchable, unbreakable 585 lbs Clean and Jerk record. The closest you can get is the 580 lbs (263 kg) Clean and Jerk (official world record) of "The Iranian Hercules" Hossein Rezazadeh performed at the Athens 2004 Summer Olympic Games.  Taranenko world record was stole away from him!!!  Sad...

Forget the stupid weight classes changes, recognized or not, to this date, Leonid Taranenko will forever be known as the man who lifted the highest weight from the ground to overhead, period.

Aside from Mariusz Pudzianowski and Zydrunas Savickas, Bill Kazmaier is the greatest World's Strongest Man winner in history.  Bill Kazmaier won the 1980, 81 and 82 WSM contests.  He was so dominant that the WSM officials unfairly barred him from competing in order to keep people entertained.

- Bill Kazmaier had a world record bench press of 661 pounds in a 1981 powerlifting competition.  A raw bench press performed in a loose-fitting white T-shirt.  No sling-shot bench shirts and others cheating devices.  At the very same event, he totaled (Squat+Deadlift+Bench Press) 2425 lbs, no gimmicks, no suits.
- Bill Kazmaier could simultaneously clean a pair of 156-pound dumbbells and them for 10 reps.
- Bill Kazmaier was the first man ever to lift all five McGlashen Stones - weighting 200 to 350 pounds.
- His best lifts were: 925 lbs squat (done without a suit), 662 lbs bench press, and 974 lbs deadlift.

MARK HENRY

A lifelong drug-free athlete, "The Silverback" Mark Henry is truly a freak of nature.  Excelled in the Holy Trinity of strength: Olympic lifting, powerlifting, and strongman competition.

- Mark Henry has held both the U.S. weightlifting and powerlifting superheavyweight championship titles at the same time.
- Mark Henry is a 1992 Olympian in Olympic lifting and placed tenth in the superheavyweight division, weighting 366 lbs at the time.

- Mark Henry has the greatest combined weightlifting / powerlifting total in history.

- After all these years Mark Henry still hold Men's Raw Drug Tested Powerlifting World Records (the only categorie that matter)
+ All Squats (with & without wraps) SHW 953 lbs Mark Henry USA 1995 WDFPF
+ Deadlift SHW 903 lbs Mark Henry USA 1995 ADFPA
+ All Totals (with & without wraps) SHW 2,336 lbs Mark Henry USA 1995 WDFPF
http://www.powerliftingwatch.com/records/raw/world

- Mark Henry won the inaugural Arnold Strongman Classic competition in 2002.  At this time, in my opinion, the Arnold Strongman Classic was the real World's Strongest Man contest.  No shitty strength athletism here, the Arnold Strongman was a pure test of sheer strength and raw power.
- In 2002, Mark Henry was the first man in history to clean and press with one hand the famed Thomas Inch dumbbell, a 172 pounds dumbbell with a 21/2 inches thick handle.

Just imagine the superhuman feats of strength he would had achieved if he hasn't left strength training in 1996 for a lucrative 10 years / $10 000 000 WWE wrestling contract.

VICTOR DELAMARRE

Strongman
Born: September 24, 1888
Died: March 13, 1955, Quebec
Birthplace: Hébertville, Québec, Canada
Height: 5'51/2" (166.5 cm)
Weight: 154 lbs (70 kg)

Chest: 46"
Neck: 16"
Biceps: 17"
Waist: 28"
Thigh: 20"
Calf: 14"

He was one of thirteen children and built the foundation for his great strength at a young age by farming and working as a lumberjack.
Practising sports like Boxing and Wrestling since the age of 13.
When he was 14 years old, DeLamarre studied the exploits of Louis Cyr and declared that he would one day break Cyr's records.
Came to Montreal and joined the Police. At the time, Montreal cops were required to be big strong individuals. Delamarre was deemed too small but his feats of strength spoke for himself.

Some of his feats of strength were climbing a ladder carrying a horse in a sling, bending a quarter between his thumb and forefinger, etc.

Had double tendons and a four-inch thick spine, more than the double of a strongman (facts verified at the autopsy). He was said to be hard as steel.

April 2nd 1914, when, at age 25, weighting 154 pounds, Victor DeLamarre officially bent-pressed (dévissé) 309-1/2 lbs at the Arcade theater of Montreal.
Doing so, Delamarre shattered 4 records.
1- Defeating Louis Cyr (273 lbs bent-press)
2- Lifting a weight twice as heavy as him overhead with one-hand.
3- Doing the heaviest Bent-press (dévissé) in history.
4- Defeating all the heavyweights of the world as a middleweight.

  • February 24, 1922: officially clean-and-jerked 201.5 lbs with only one finger.
  • Around 1925, at Montreal: backlifted 65 people on a platform (7000 lbs)

He wrestled over 1500 bouts as a professional, mainly in 1930s.

An expert on the subject, Raymond Desbiens, is convinced that Victor Delamarre was stronger than Louis Cyr, billed as the strongest man of all time by many historians. Raymond Desbiens also stated that Victor Delamarre had visibly more stamina than Louis Cyr in his performances. However, Louis Cyr was a better showman and had the classic strongman look.

Louis Gagné, the general director of l'Ermitage Saint-Antoine de Lac Bouchette - were the strongman memorabilia are exposed - stated: "Victor Delamarre defeated Louis Cyr on everything except marketing. Delamarre could have been a lot more famous: he was offered movie roles from an american producer. But he refused since they wanted him to change his name for Delaware."

XPW Xtreme Pro Wrestling

XPW Xtreme Pro Wrestling
XPW was the kind of edgy (to say the least) wrestling promotion that I like.  Extreme, hardcore, violent with a lot of blood and, most importantly, a lot of sex.
XPW owners Rob Black and Lizzy Borden
XPW was founded and owned by porn magnate Rob Black and his pornstar / wife Lizzy Borden.  Rob Black and Lizzy Borden folded millions of dollars in their wrestling venture and got inducted by the feds for obscene pornography distribution.  So, unfortunately, XPW folded...

Let's be realistic; the Iron Game, the strength field, is infested by drugs and supplements. Now, a kid wanting to get big and strong does not ask what exercises to do. Hell, no! He asks about what stuff to take. Today, it's all about shortcuts! But with or without shortcuts, if you don't do the right exercises, you won't get anywhere!

Unfortunately, in the strength-training world, steroids and growth hormones are common. If you're not doing them, you're the exception! I've always been a rebel and an outsider, so I'm proud to be the exception and proud to be like no one else. And you too, you're not obligated to do steroids to become humongously big and strong. Follow my path: it's a lot safer, less expensive, and the results are the same. You will be proud of yourself to do things the hard way, like the old-time strongmen. Sweat and tears instead of steroids and supplements!

It works! I am the living proof!
